PLACE Designers announced today that Steven L. Biegel, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP has joined the company as Architecture Department Director of their Austin based firm.
Mr. Biegel, a registered architect and member of the American Institute of Architects, has practiced architecture and large-scale facilities planning since 1980, directing or designing more than 600 buildings across the U.S. over his 38-year career. His portfolio includes landmark projects such as the renovation of the U.S. Pentagon in Arlington, the Securities & Exchange Commission in New York, USDA South Building planning in Washington, D.C., K-12 schools in Texas, and high-rise condominiums along the southeast and Gulf Coast. A graduate of Syracuse University with a professional architecture degree, he is NCARB certified, LEED Accredited, and licensed in 11 states. Widely recognized for technical expertise and project management, he has specialized in master planning, building diagnostics, energy conservation, and building envelope systems, and has served as Director of Energy Programs for ACEC and Vice President of NIBS. He is also a published author, contributing to McGraw Hill’s Encyclopedia of Architecture, Design & Construction and authoring Profit By Design as well as technical reports on building materials, energy performance, and indoor air quality. In 2012–13, he chaired the Council for Federal Procurement of Architecture & Engineering Services (COFPAES), advocating for the QBS process in government contracting. At PLACE Designers, Mr. Biegel directs the Architecture Studio, mentoring staff in design strategies, technical investigations, master planning, and project management while leading new building design and ensuring the highest standards in both new construction and renovation.
